Background

TriTek Solutions designs and delivers customized applications, utilities, and services for enterprise content management (ECM).  Its award-winning products help clients enhance productivity and solve a wide array of business problems.  

Although TriTek had a large number of diverse, geographically-dispersed technology assets, it had no formal IT management processes in place, and no means of monitoring how those assets were used.  The company needed improved visibility into its inventory, so it could better manage and mitigate risk, and ensure compliance with software license contracts. 

Challenges

TriTek employs many consultants, who are located in three main offices, as well as numerous satellite offices across the country.  Each consultant utilizes multiple machines – some owned, some leased.   These PCs and laptops run a variety of software applications, which makes it hard to control what software is used across the company.  Additionally, the company recently embarked on a “virtualization” strategy, and maintains numerous “virtual” assets. 

“We had little or no insight into what we had,” said Sean Calvillo, a TriTek Vice President.  “As a result, we were completely unable to see where we stood from a risk or a license compliance perspective.” 

Solution

After evaluating several other tools, like SpiceWorks, TriTek signed up for a free trial of the SAManage IT management service.  Unlike the other solutions the company considered, SAManage – through is software-as-a-service model – offered a high level of user-friendliness, and freed the company from the hassle of installing and maintaining servers and other hardware on their own premises. 

“SAManage gave us the opportunity to bring order to chaos in terms of our asset inventory, without the burden of a long, complicated implementation,” Calvillo added.  “We were up and running quickly, and can now do a variety of things we couldn’t do before, like cross reference our assets with our software contracts, or proactively monitor software utilization so we can better allocate our IT budgets and ensure that all of our consultants have the software they need to perform their jobs.”
