Moving from Spreadsheets to Samanage in One Simple Step
DAS Companies Inc. is the leading distributor of travel products and mobile electronics, as well as the exclusive manufacturer of the RoadPro family of brands.
DAS customers include leading travel centers, convenience stores, and specialty retailers representing over 2000 retail locations across the United States. With four large distribution centers located in different states, the DAS IT department has a lot of assets to track and maintain.
When we started with Samanage it was easy. We just uploaded an excel sheet and most of it was setup right there. Once we installed the agents on the PCs, the product was up and running.- James Flood, Help Desk Analyst
Before they started using Samanage, DAS was trying to use excel sheets to track their IT assets, but found that this was no easy job. Spreadsheets, besides being inconvenient, were sometimes saved in different places, or several different sheets were used to update the same information.
Because they had only limited accurate information available, computers were being destroyed at a rapid rate by outside representatives. “We needed a better way to see how old a PC was, and when it should be getting upgraded,” explains James Flood, Help Desk Analyst at DAS. Flood and his team knew they needed a new solution, and fast. They began searching for one with a very easy setup – that could be up and running as quickly as possible.
“When we started with Samanage it was easy. We just uploaded an excel sheet and most of it was setup right there. Once we installed the agents on the PCs, the product was up and running,” says Flood. The easy setup and ease of use that Samanage offers is what most attracted DAS to the solution, and they began seeing benefits right away.
The DAS IT department is now able to keep an accurate and updated record of all hardware and software, that includes life expectancy. This has led to a 30% decrease in the time Flood and his team spend on managing their hardware and software inventory. They also have better tools to keep track of what assets are with which reps, and keep an eye out for changes in the status of assets.
