Option Development Finds All of the Features in a Single IT Service Management Solution
Option Development AS was established in 2007 by a group of consultants and advisors to deliver development, advisory, and consultancy services for the business market. The company provides ICT services to customers in the oil sector, shipping industry, SMB, and the public sector. Option Development’s most significant clients are large oil drilling companies, who require robust solutions and complex data storage.

With the rapid growth of the company, it was clear that the current mix of spreadsheets, Spiceworks, and email were not streamlined enough for the future growth of IT. “As we were growing as a company, we needed a system to replace our old routines. We wanted an easy to use ITIL system, which was always available,” says Rossland on the need for a new solution.
Option Development began to feel the limitations of trying to use spreadsheets and the spiceworks service desk, between which it is difficult to share information. The company began looking for an ITIL compliant solution that wasn’t static and and didn’t require a lot of manual maintenance like their old system did.
Option Development’s IT department looked for a solution online and though they immediately liked Samanage, they only settled on the offer after an extensive search. They were especially attracted to the Samanage because it is cloud-based, which as Rossland says “makes it available everywhere and no need for an internal server. There are no manual upgrades or maintenance, and new features are updated on a regular basis.”

With Samanage, Option Development found that it was very easy to register, pay, and roll out the asset management agents to the organization. The company has taken advantage of the Samanage API and the platform’s flexibility by installing agents on oil rigs across Norway and writing original scripts. Now, they are logging tickets automatically and closing them once an issue is resolved.
Option Development quickly found Samanage allows them to provide better support for their customers. The company was immediately able to benefit from having a single solution to all their IT needs. They found that with Samanage it is significantly easier to maintain assets and work as a team. Rossland says Option Development is benefitting greatly from Samanage because it is “easy to use, always available, [provides] good support, and is constantly evolving.”
As SaaS offering, Samanage is easily scalable, so it will serve Option Development well as the company continues to grow and expand.
