    UEB Builders Tracks IT Assets Across Multiple Job Sites with Samanage

    Background

    UEB Builders has offices in Dallas and Scottsdale, and specializes in LEED-compliant buildings for medical facilities, religious structures, educational facilities, offices, and senior care facilities. With an emphasis on sustainability and keeping clients informed at all stages of a project, UEB has to be able to track all computer assets across multiple states and project sites.

    UEB offers a range of planning, design, and construction services — from project definition through completion. The company’s integrated team approach allows for smart decision making, accurate cost estimates, efficient construction schedules, and designs that require fewer change orders. These things can’t be done without IT assets that can be tracked and kept in working order.

    From electronic submittals to the use of teleconferencing and web-based productivity tools, UEB’s success depends on its computer assets.

    Challenges

    UEB Builders’ Nick Crutchfield found that using existing tools, like Microsoft Access, for their complex inventory needs. “It just wasn’t adequate, because they were frustrating to maintain and very frequently inaccurate,” said Crutchfield. When building a new wing for a children’s hospital or a LEED-compliant office complex, the cost and time losses due to such errors were unacceptable.

    Tracking IT assets at remote locations and branch offices has often been a challenge, yet accurate IT asset management is critical to efficient operations. UEB needed a solution that was robust, easy to use, and that could handle a complex and geographically dispersed inventory. Ordinary database and spreadsheet software just couldn’t do it. Fortunately, Samanage offered UEB Builders a product that could do what they needed, and that could be deployed quickly.

    SaaS is a natural fit for a company like UEB Builders. Not only does it untether IT professionals from onsite servers, it doesn’t care where assets are located. “Our company has many remote site employees who may not always be VPN’ed into our internal network. SAManage still keeps track of these assets regardless,” said Crutchfield.

    And not only was the Samanage solution up to the task in meeting UEB demands, it was easy to implement. “Samanage was very easy to deploy. I simply pushed the client via Group Policy,” said Crutchfield.
