The Center for Creative Leadership Moves From Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets to Worldwide IT Asset Management
The Center for Creative Leadership is an executive education facility that provides training for executive leaders from all over the world. Since 1970, approximately 470,000 business leaders have graduated from a Center for Creative Leadership program. The Center helps clients worldwide develop their capacity to increase achievements by thinking and taking action beyond what they consider business as usual. CCL is headquartered in Greensboro, NC with campuses in San Diego, Colorado Springs, Brussels, and Singapore and with offices in South Africa, Ethiopia, India, China, and Russia.
Before turning to Samanage, the Center for Creative Leadership was using spreadsheets to track and manage IT assets located around the world, particularly laptops and PCs. This was an inadequate solution, according to the Center’s CIO, Darrel Handgraaf, who described the spreadsheet solution as “Difficult to update and the spreadsheet offered no insight into the software or OS that was loaded on the laptops and PCs in inventory.”
The Center for Creative Leadership needed an accurate global inventory of their laptops and PCs, along with information about the software and operating systems installed on them. Their system needed to be easy to update from any global location, so going with cloud-based software was a natural fit. The Center chose Samanage, which is run from the cloud and has powerful IT asset management features.
The Center for Creative Leadership selected Samanage as their asset management solution for three main reasons, according to Handgraaf:

A global roll-out of on-site software would have been a logistical headache, and would have committed the Center to a future of synchronizing updates to make sure all locations were using the same software. But with Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions like Samanage, everyone is operating in the cloud and everyone has the latest software at all times.
To Handgraaf, the benefits were simple, but exactly what they needed. “We know where all of our laptops and PCs are at any time,” said Handgraaf.
Furthermore, Samanage allowed the Center for Creative Leadership to plan laptop purchases better when older machines approached the end of their life cycles. “To have an accurate inventory around the globe with easy updates from any of our global locations has made a huge difference,” said Handgraaf.
