The Budd Group is a leading family-owned and operated facilities services corporation which delivers high quality janitorial, maintenance, security and landscaping services to clients throughout the Southeastern U.S. The company, with headquarters in Winston-Salem, NC, has over 3,300 service associates working out of 10 regional offices and is fully committed to embracing state-of-the-art technology for more efficient work processes, communication and quality control.
At the Budd Group, a small IT department supports over 200 end users. Initially, the department was relying on Excel spreadsheets for its IT asset management. This quickly became too inflexible to update and cumbersome to manage as users and machines changed on the network frequently.
“We needed to find a solution that was cloud-based since the majority of our users are remote,” said John Carter, IT Manager.
The team experimented and struggled a while with a few different free asset management products such as Spiceworks, but found that they ultimately required too much time-intensive tweaking and configuring to make them “workable” in their enterprise.
The other problem Carter and his team faced was that all of the off-the-shelf solutions required installation and maintenance of a product on a server, thus introducing one more application for the already stretched team to manage. That’s when they made the decision to go with the leader in SaaS-based IT asset management – Samanage.
Samanage was selected for several reasons, one being its ease of deployment. “Within a few hours after deployment, we were up and running. Within a few days all the computers were automatically reporting back to central console,” said Carter.

“We did not have to install and configure a software product before starting the implementation. We simply went straight to the implementation. It was all there waiting for us — and we are quite excited that we will not have any ongoing maintenance and upgrade issues to worry about. Samanage will be taking care of that for us!” said Carter.
As a result of implementing the Samanage’s cloud-based IT asset management solution, the Budd Group’s IT department now has full control over all of its hardware and software assets. Carter reports that tracking of the entire firm’s IT assets with real-time, up-to-date information has been extremely helpful in generating and automating a lifecycle management process for all their assets.
