Rankin County School District and Samanage
In 2015, Rankin County School District introduced its 1:1 initiative, offering students a unique opportunity to work with a personal laptop. Every student from grades 7-12 would receive a MacBook computer, which meant that the school district needed to support at least 10,000 devices in a given year.
This video captures the story of the tech teams — groups of students at every middle and high school in the district who work as the first layer of IT support for their classmates, teachers, and school staff.
The students apply for the position and receive school credit, learning the basics of IT service management and support. They use Samanage to enter work orders and requests through the service catalog. The IT administration in the school district has molded the Samanage Service Platform to fit perfectly into their use case, simplifying processes for the student tech teams and allowing a small staff to support over 10,000 students in the 1:1 initiative.
